HP continues support of Los Pen
Hewlett-Packard announced another year of support to Los Penasquitos Academy’s students for a program geared toward young engineers and scientists. HP is renewing its commitment with a $25,000 grant, for a daily, hands-on math and science program.
The grant will fund the continuation of the “HP Science Hour.” The extra hour per day gives the students 60 percent more time on math and science than their peers in public schools.
“Invention is at the forefront of our company and as such, HP is committed to promoting the fundamentals of science and math in the classrooms,” said Rachael Perez, an academy parent and HP employee. “We hope programs like the HP Science Hour at Los Penasquitos Academy help inspire many young scientists to pursue careers in technology.”
Los Penasquitos Academy serves third- fourth- and fifth-graders through a magnet program where the students attend school for two extra hours a day and an extra three weeks during the summer for additional emphasis on literacy, science, math and community building.

Save on utilities
A leading energy management firm is offering two programs with no cost to the user. The programs are designed to curb energy usage and expenses at restaurants and properties with commercial pools and spas.
The company, Equity Thru Energy, is providing two programs, one for restaurants and one for pools and spas. In both cases, ETE will install controllers and provide Web-based monitoring. Installation and monitoring are provided at no cost and must be installed by Dec. 31 to qualify for the program.
Call 877-352-0606 for further information or to request a personal visit.
The controls are funded by California utility customers and administered by San Diego Gas & Electric Company under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission, through a contract awarded to Energy Thru Equity.
“These are very exciting programs that typically will save qualified owners 10 to 35 percent on their utility bills, and will help conserve energy — at no cost to them,” said Tom Debin, CEO of Equity Thru Energy.
