The Geography of Cultural Conflicts
There are more than 30 continuing armed conflicts in the
world today. Many occur within,
not between, countries and are fueled by cultural differences and political
issues. Attend the free class “Nations and States: The Geography of Cultural Conflicts”
presented by Laura Makey and learn how political geography provides the
vocabulary and tools to better understand international and civil dispute
issues. Laura Makey is a popular
lecturer and has taught Geography at California State, San Marcos since 1998. “Nations
& States” will be held in the Rancho Penasquitos Library’s community
room, in partnership with OASIS Escondido, 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29. Register
either by phone at 760-796-6020 or 858-538-8159, at www.oasisnet.org,
or in person during the library’s open hours.

Participation requires each volunteer to have and maintain both CPR and first aid training, to complete a course in procedures and radio protocol and to demonstrate a commitment to cheerful interaction as an “ambassador of the preserve.”
