Fire damages Poway home
Damage to the house, on the 13000 block of Slack Street, was estimated at about $100,000, according fire investigator Scott Bridgman, who said the fire was started by a faulty refrigerator motor. While fire damage was mostly contained to the kitchen, there was extensive smoke damage to the living room and hallway, he said.
Two family cats died in the fire, according to Bridgman.
The house was owned by Noelle and Grant Deane, who lost their San Pasqual area home in the 2007 wildfire.
Noelle Deane said that she was notified about the 1 p.m. Thursday fire by her husband, who called her at work at the San Pasqual Academy.
“I started crying saying ‘I know we lost our house,’?” she said. “I tried to calmly drive back to Poway.”
The Deanes had just begun to think about renovations to their Poway home, Noelle said.
A few hours after the fire was extinguished, neighbors began to stop by to offer assistance and check on the their welfare.
“We don’t know a lot of our neighbors, but we love them,” she added.
