San Diego County Fair concert tickets go on sale Saturday

Spring is less than a week old, but starting Saturday, you can start thinking about summer.

That’s because tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. to the first batch of announced concerts for the 2010 San Diego County Fair. Tickets to the fair will also go on sale at that time.

The fair — which will celebrate food with its “Taste the Fun” theme — will take place for 22 days, from Friday, June 11 to Monday, July 5.

While all but one of the shows slated to take place in the Heineken Grandstand Stage as part of the Toyota Summer Concert Series are free with fair admission, some shows require a separate ticket for admission, while some shows also have separate tickets for reserved seating and dining packages.

Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster, or at the Del Mar Fairgrounds box office Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For prices, go to www.ticketmaster.com or call 800-745-3000.

As for the unveiled lineup, which will include artists to be named later, the fair offers a varied mix of performers, including solo singers, bands and comedians. The shows start at 7:30 p.m. nightly.

The Independence Day concert, which is a free concert and features a fireworks show, will feature Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Jett, who also performed at the fair’s main stage last year, is currently in the news as a biopic of her ‘70s rock band “The Runaways” is scheduled to open on April 9 (Jett is interpreted by “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart).

Other free concerts include appearances by Dennis DeYoung of the band Styx (on June 16); Kenny Loggins (June 23); local rockers Switchfoot (June 24) and Julio Iglesias (on June 25).

Admission to the fair will be $13 for adults, $7 for ages 6-12 and 62 and over and free for kids ages 5 and under.

Starting on April 1, the fair will offer a “Best Pass Ever” offer that will allow people to buy season passes to the fair for $22 at local Albertsons and Sav-on stores.

The paid show takes place Saturday July 3 and features ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, who is perhaps best-known for his series of comedy specials that have been aired on Comedy Central.
