Del Mar Racetrack ready to rock with Weezer, ZZ Top and B52s
Weezer is returning to San Diego on Saturday, Aug. 21.
The pop-rock band, which had to cancel its tour — including a January stop at UC San Diego’s RIMAC arena — after lead singer Rivers Cuomo was injured when his tour bus crashed in December, is playing a concert at the Del Mar racetrack.
The show, one of 11 planned during the horseracing season at Del Mar, is free with admission to the track, if purchased before the last race.
Tickets begin at $3 for members of the free Diamond Club (and $6 for nonmembers). Those who show up after the races will be charged $20 for admission.
Other notable shows include one by former San Diego band The Softpack (formerly The Muslims) who performed at the Coachella music festival in April; the B52s and ZZ Top; and the Reggae Fest featuring Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff and Matisyahu.
The popular Friday concert series has a new location — the Seaside Terrace — which features views of the Pacific Ocean.
The concert season will also feature:
• Friday, July 23: Pinback
• Friday, July 30: Common Sense
• Friday, Aug. 6: The B52s
• Friday, Aug. 13: The Softpack
• Saturday, Aug. 14: Reggae Fest featuring Jimmy Cliff and Matisyahu.

• Friday, Aug. 27: Super Diamond
• Saturday, Aug. 28: Microbrew and local music showcase

The fair is offering “Family Sundays” and “Free and Easy Wednesdays.” Racing takes place Wednesday through Sunday and a special racing card on Labor Day, Sept. 6.
