Poway Dixieline again open on Sundays

Dixieline ProBuild in Poway is once again open Sundays, which may be pleasing for local homeowners doing weekend projects.

The Poway home center is located at 13345 Poway Road, at the corner of Community Road and Poway Road. The phone number is 858-486-6333. Sunday hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday the store is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Saturday hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Although the Poway location of Dixieline ProBuild has previously been open seven days a week, it had closed Sundays this past fall due to the economic recession, according to Dave Vigil, who oversees the San Diego region’s home centers.

Dixieline regularly reviews its hours based on the season and decided to open its Poway store again on Sundays for this spring/summer season, he said.

“Business was improving along with the season, and we wanted to go back to our full seven-day-a-week (schedule) to support the customer base that does shop on Sunday,” Vigil said, noting that local residents work on home projects on weekends.

The Poway home center provides all key building and remodeling products: electrical, plumbing, hardware, tools, paint, garden, patio furniture, and seasonal items. The more popular items at the Poway store — where do-it-yourselfers and remodelers make up much of the customer base — are millwork lumber (such as for windows and doors), cabinets, custom milling, and do-it-yourself hardware departments.

Opened March 1996, the Poway store is unique in that it was set up to support the existing and developing local community, which was undergoing much growth at the time, said Vigil. Also, the Poway store is in the heart of the community, whereas other Dixieline ProBuild stores are located in commercial areas or near freeways, he added. Most of the store’s employees live locally, Vigil said, and the company also supports the annual Poway Days festival and donated products to local families affected by the 2003 and 2007 wildfires.

“The Poway store is a little bit more community- and family-oriented,” Vigil said.
A presence in San Diego for 97 years and headquartered in the Sports Arena area, Dixieline ProBuild began as Dixie Lumber Company in 1913 by the Cowling family of San Diego. In 1957, it merged with Airline Lumber Company to form Dixieline. The company’s name today reflects its current ownership by ProBuild Holdings Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fidelity Capital.
