VOTE FOR MUSIC AWARDS
You have until 6 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 20) to vote for your favorite local artists for the 20th annual San Diego Music Awards.
The public is invited to vote in the non-album-related categories at www.sandiegomusicawards.com.
Nominees with local ties include Rolling the Stones, who are nominated in the “Best Tribute Band” category and which features Powegian Vince Lupo and The Nervous Wreckords, the new band of Brian Karscig, formerly of Poway-bred rock band Louis XIV, in the “Best New Artist” category.
The Nervous Wreckords are also among those scheduled to perform at the awards ceremony, which will be held Sept. 7 at Humphreys by the Bay.
Other performing acts include The Night Marchers, New Mexico, Miss Erika Davies, Transfer and Maren Parusel.
Tickets to the ceremony are now available through the website.
Proceeds are donated to the San Diego Music Foundation’s Taylor Guitars for Schools program.
RECYCLED ART WANTED
Create art and fashion out of recycled material for a Recycled Art Exhibition at the Escondido Municipal Gallery, presented by the Escondido Arts Partnership.
Artists are invited to submit work created from recycled material for the exhibition Oct. 8 through Nov. 6 at the Escondido Municipal Gallery, 262 E. Grand Ave, Escondido.
Pieces should not be framed in the traditional way and artists are encouraged to be as creative with the presentation as they are with the piece.
Submission fees are: EAP members: $20 for one piece, $25 for two, $30 for three. Non members: $30 for one piece, $35 for two, $40 for three.
The Recycled Materials Fashion Show is Oct. 23 at the gallery. Submit photos of the fashion entry in jpg format on a CD along with the entry fee by Sept. 20 to the gallery. A mandatory rehearsal is 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21.
