Celebrities coming to Saturday’s RB Kiwanis breakfast

Skip cooking breakfast on Saturday and head over to the Kiwanis pancake breakfast, where you can meet celebrities and help others.

Rancho Bernardo Kiwanis Club’s 42nd annual pancake breakfast will be 7-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at Rancho Bernardo High, 13010 Paseo Lucido.

Among celebrities scheduled to help cook and serve the breakfast and meet with fans is Kate Linder, who for the past 28 years has played housekeeper Esther Valentine on the soap opera, “The Young and the Restless.”
Linder will be joined by Kathleen Bradley, an actress, singer and super model who made history as the first African-American “Barker’s Beauty” on “The Price is Right,” where she worked for 10 years.

Another first-time attendee will be Heather S. Michaels, a celebrity and sports reporter whose hosting duties have included programs on MTV, Nickelodeon, CBS, and “American Journal” and “Inside Edition.”

Returning to the breakfast for the second year will be Chip McAllister, who portrayed Muhammad Ali in the movie, “The Muhammad Ali Story,” and along with his wife, won $1 million in the second season of “The Amazing Race.”

As of Tuesday, the Kiwanians had almost $13,000 in ticket sales. Breakfast chairman John Gomez said he expected another $5,000 in sales to be turned in at the club’s meeting this week, in addition to event-day sales.
Gomez said the club will probably raise about $5,000 through an auction during the breakfast that will have about 40 items.

“We have four-day vacation packages to two outstanding resorts in Baja California and Mazatlan,” Gomez said. “We have eight golf packages. We have ice skating lessons. We even have a Persian cookbook, which includes a dinner with the author at a Persian restaurant.”

He said children’s entertainment during the breakfast will include a magician and games.

“(We’ll have the) best pancakes in North County and lots of fun,” Gomez said.

The breakfast is one of the Kiwanian’s largest fundraisers, with 100 percent of the money going back to the community, according to club president Jeff Shea.

Last year, the club distributed $40,000 to a variety of causes, including scholarships for Rancho Bernardo and Poway high seniors, Wounded Marines, Ed Brown Senior Center at Rancho Bernardo, Rides & Smiles, Rancho Bernardo Senior Services, Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, local Boy Scouts and Rancho Bernardo High library.

Tickets are $6 for teens and adults and $3 for children 12 years and younger.

Purchase at the breakfast or in advance at https://www.wepay.com/tickets/buy/483. There is a 50 cent service fee for online tickets.
