Mark Grant to emcee annual Padres luncheon

Padres television broadcaster and former major league pitcher Mark Grant will emcee the 14th Annual Padres Spring Training Kickoff Luncheon, to be held at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at the Doubletree Golf Resort in Rancho Penasquitos.

Television commentator Mark Grant will emcee the 14th annual Padres Spring Training Kickoff Luncheon.

On Wednesday, the Padres confirmed that team President and CEO Tom Garfinkel and manager Bud Black will attend the event. Players will be announced at a later date.

Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Poway Foundation, the event will include comments on the upcoming season by team members, live and silent auctions, a western barbecue lunch and music provided by “Rob the DJ.”

Grant pitched in the majors between 1984 and 1995, including three years with the Padres. He joined the San Diego Channel 4 broadcasting team in 1997.

Each year the luncheon raises money for pediatric trauma care at Rady Children’s Hospital and the club’s high school scholarship program.

Individual tickets are $35. They can be purchased online at www.powaykiwanis.org or in person at The Watch Man, 13434 Poway Road (Vons center). The event sells out every year, with seating limited to 250 people.

A few table sponsorships remain. Call 760-805-9100 for more information.
