PQ rollover crash kills 1

A bicyclist was killed and at least one other person was injured tonight when a sport utility vehicle crashed off state Route 56 in Rancho Penasquitos and tumbled onto a bike path alongside the freeway, authorities reported.

Labor group blasts DeMaio for campaign web site

A San Diego labor group accused City Councilman Carl DeMaio Tuesday of breaking ethics and fundraising laws by prematurely soliciting campaign funds, a claim the councilman denied.

4S Ranch Village expanding; Vision office, cleaners signed up

Up to eight businesses can be added to 4S Ranch Village, which when completed this summer will mean the last construction for that shopping center, according to a center official.

Two buildings going up next to Fresh & Easy will add a combined 11,000-square-feet of shopping space, bringing the center to about 67,000 square feet, said Ann Forella, director of asset management for Buie Stoddard Properties. It owns 4S Ranch Village.

Rancho Bernardo High visited by educators from Singapore

Rancho Bernardo High’s reputation as an excellent school led to a group of education administrators from Singapore visiting the campus to see if they can incorporate some of its techniques into their schools.

Poway falls a run short in CIF softball title game

The CIF softball playoffs have a double-elimination format to reach the San Diego Section finals, but the team which advanced from the winner’s bracket does not have to be defeated twice. This allowed Grossmont High School to win the CIF Division I championship with a 4-3 victory over Poway in the May 28 finals at UCSD despite Poway’s 2-0 victory over Grossmont two days earlier.

Autopsy pending on body found near Lake Hodges

An autopsy was pending Saturday on the decomposing body of a man found near Lake Hodges.
The body found off Bernardo Trails Drive, just south of the lake, about 8:45 a.m. Friday, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The body is believed to be that of a 46-year-old man, but his name was being withheld early.Saturday.

Poway to honor war heroes on Monday

Poway veterans are gearing up for Memorial Day services at Dearborn Memorial Park at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 30 at 14361 Tierra Bonita Road.

Dick Smith with Branch 70 of Navy Fleet Reserve Association in Poway said that his group has organized the tribute to fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines for years.

Monday’s ceremony in Rancho Bernardo to honor war heroes

Rancho Bernardans will have the opportunity to honor those who have died in service to their country during a Memorial Day ceremony.

The Monday, May 30 ceremony will take place at the Rancho Bernardo Veterans Memorial in Webb Park near Avena Place off Bernardo Center Drive. It will begin with a 10:15 a.m. patriotic musical prelude that will include the 3rd Marine Air Wing Band’s brass quintet from MCAS Miramar and Rancho Bernardo High’s Madrigals.
