Poway Gymnastics gymnasts bring home gold

Poway Gymnastics, level three through six, has shined in its previous two competitions. The girls won four gold medals at the 1st Prelim in Temecula on Sept. 18 and added 12 more gold medals at the Butterfly Classic on Sept. 24.

The group of girls had 13 scores of 9.0 and above at the 1st Prelim and a whopping 26 scores of 9.0 and above at the Butterfly Classic. The level five team received second place and the level four team received third place at the Butterfly Classic.

Leading the way for Poway Gymnastics was Tess Alwan, a level four gymnast. Alwan took first place on the bars with a score of 9.375 at the 1st Prelim, and followed that performance with first-place finishes on the vault (9.050), uneven bars (9.300) and floor exercise (9.050) at the Butterfly Classic.

Other strong performers at the 1st Prelim included Maya Belanger (level five gymnast). She won on the bars (9.350) and the all-around (36.250). Michelle Wong (level five) also won bars (9.425). Other scorers over 9.0 in their respective events were Laurel Olson (level four: vault and uneven bars) and Karina Pratama (level five: vault and uneven bars).

Katerina Adamiec was part of a large group of Poway Gymnastics members that performed well at the Butterfly Classic. The level four gymnast took first place on bars (9.500). Belanger received four gold medals, winning the vault (8.725), uneven bars (9.000), floor exercise (9.175) and the all-around (35.850).

Wong won the floor exercise (9.075) and all-around (35.525). Natalie Ortel (level five) won the uneven bars (9.175). Pratama took home gold medals on the uneven bars (9.375) and the all-around (36.550). Brook Merila (level six) won on floor with a score of 8.700.
