A Poway teenage boy is reportedly recovering from a head wound he sustained Friday night while he and a small group of friends were reportedly hallucinating after using drugs.
Chris Johnson, a sheriff’s juvenile detective stationed in Poway, said Tuesday morning the teen remains in critical, but stable condition.
Poway deputies, along with Poway Fire Department paramedics, responded to a call about 6:15 p.m. in the 14800 block of Midland Road and found a teenage boy with a gunshot wound at the residence.
Because the boy is a juvenile, his name and other pertinent information cannot be released, according to, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Nesbit.
“Because it’s an ongoing investigation, we can’t release much information at this time,” Nesbit said.
He added that a homicide unit was assigned to the case because initially the Sheriff’s Department was not certain if they would be dealing with a fatality.
The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact the homicide detail at 858-974-2321 or after hours at 858-565-5200, or to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
