Brush fire burns 5 to 8 acres near 4S Ranch
By Pat Kumpan
Fire crews put out a 5- to 8-acre vegetation fire Wednesday night nearĀ 4S Ranch that began late in the afternoon. No homes were threatened.
The fire was north of Camino Del Sur near Old Course Road and Maranatha Drive, close to Maranatha Christian Schools. Pushed by 15 mph Santa Ana winds, the fire was contained in approximately 30 minutes to 5 to 8 acres, according to Julie Taber of the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District.
Since the fire was burning under power lines, power to about 700 San Diego Gas & Electric customers was cut off as a precaution. By 6:30 p.m. all but about 80 customers had power restored.
The flames approached, but did not damage, a sewer treatment plant and came close enough to Maranatha Christian Schools to warrant the removal of students and staff participating in afterschool activities.
Firefighters from Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District, Rancho Bernardo and neighboring stations were called to the fire, according to the district spokesman.
