Sketch released of Rancho Bernardo indecent exposure suspect

Police released on Thursday a composite sketch of a man who allegedly exposed himself to a teenage girl and followed another in Rancho Bernardo on Tuesday.

Composite drawing of Rancho Bernardo indecent exposure suspect. Due to limitations of sketch software, suspect has more wrinkles and is older than he appears in the sketch.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid 50s, 5-feet-9-inches to 6-feet tall, with a thin build and graying hair. He was wearing a dark blue pullover sweater and khaki pants.
According to a San Diego Police press release, “Due to limitations of the sketch software, the suspect actually has more wrinkles and appears older than in the sketch.”
Around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a female teen was walking to the bus stop at Poblado Road and West Bernardo Drive in the Westwood neighborhood when the suspect drove up, said Officer Susan Steffen. He got out of the car, stared at the girl, then pretended to look at houses along the street.
Afterward, he followed the teen, walking behind her very close, Steffen said. The teen ran to the bus and the suspect returned to his car.
The vehicle was described as a nautical blue metallic Toyota Matrix or similar crossover-type four-door vehicle that had an orange blanket covering the rear seat.
At 7:05 a.m. a man with the same description — but without a vehicle — approached a teenage girl walking to school near Calle Suacillo and Avenida Alcachofa in Bernardo Heights, a few blocks from Bernardo Heights Middle School and Rancho Bernardo High.
“He exposed his genitals to her and asked ‘Do you want some of this?’ … then ran away,” Steffen said.
The Rancho Bernardo High students reported the separate encounters to school officials and police that day.
Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2000 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
