Poway deputies looking for occupants of stolen car

By Pat Kumpan

Poway Sheriff’s deputies were searching for a male driver and a companion Friday morning who fled the scene of a traffic stop near Poway Community Park.

The driver was reportedly driving a stolen vehicle when a deputy stopped him at Buckley Street and Seiler Road, which border the park, according to a spokesman at the Sheriff’s Communication Center.

The pilot of a sheriff’s helicopter searched from the air, while deputies on the ground looked for the suspect around the perimeter of the park, but as of noon, the suspects had not been located.

Nearby Valley Elementary School was in lock-down until Principal Andrew Johnsen was notified by the Sheriff’s Department that preschoolers could be released at 11:20 a.m., said Valley’s administrative assistant Cris Rollins.
