Tickets for church picnic
The Community Church of Poway will host a picnic and birthday party Saturday, June 23 to celebrate the completion of the renovation of their chapel, which turns 125 years old this summer. Tickets are $15 adults and $12 for seniors/military and children under 12. Advance tickets are available at the church, 13501 Community Road, by calling 858-748-3304 or by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the church with your payment included (marked “Picnic”).
Concert at Lake Poway
The Silver Beatles, a Beatles tribute band, opens the Poway Sharp Memorial Concert Series from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sundday, June 24 at Lake Poway, 14644 Lake Poway Road. Poway Chamber mixer
Celebrate 62 years of service with the Poway Chamber of Commerce at its annual Installation Ceremony Mixer 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28 at the Maderas Golf Club. Laughter yoga

Apply for Head Start
Head Start is accepting applications for its federally funded free preschool program. The program offers nutritious meals, educational activities and kindergarten readiness skills. It serves over 198 families living in the Poway Unified School District. Foster children and children with special needs are also served by the program.

Amateur Radio Field Day
Poway members of the Palomar Amateur Radio Club will participate in a 24-hour amateur radio operation starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23 through 11 a.m. Sunday, June 24 at 594 Rancheros Drive, San Marcos. The public is invited to observe Poway radio amateurs (“hams”) operating on all amateur radio bands, in conditions that replicate the traditional role carried out by amateur radio during emergencies caused by weather, earthquakes, etc. Many Poway hams were very active in emergency communications during the 2003 and 2007 San Diego County fires.

Explore ancient village
Explore an ancient village in the middle of Poway at the Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center, 13104 Ipai Waaypuk Trail, off Poway Road across from Silver Lake Drive. The center is open 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday. For more details, call 858-668-1292 or visit poway.org/kiic.
Shop ‘n’ Adopt
Escondido Humane Society is discounting the fees of animals adopted on Wednesdays only if the adopter brings in items from the group’s wish list. The fee reduction will be double the gift price, so bring a receipt. Items can also be purchased online via EHS’ Amazon wish list.
