Students walk the red carpet at iVIE

Poway Unified students, teachers and parents were among the 1,200-plus who received the red carpet treatment during the 11th annual  iVIE awards.

The Innovative Video in Education — iVIE — ceremony was June 7 at the San Diego Civic Theatre.

Of the more than 400 student-produced videos, nine of the 87 finalists among 16 categories were for entries by Poway Unified School District students.

The contest is open to kindergartners through high school seniors and organized by the San Diego County Office of Education. Its sponsors are San Diego County Credit Union, Sony, Microsoft and Time Warner Cable.

Category winners received high definition projector cameras from Sony. Among the winners were “Flashback in Time” by Del Sur Elementary students in the kindergarten to second-grade cross curricular category, “What is Newton’s Law?” by Meadowbrook Middle School students in the sixth- to eighth-grade math science category and “WHY?” by Meadowbrook Middle School students who tied with Mission Middle School in Escondido Union School District in the sixth- to eighth-grade PSA category.

“Flashback in Time” from Del Sur Elementary also won the People’s Choice award.

As for the other PUSD finalists, they were:

• “Channel Surfer” by Meadowbrook Middle School students and “Perfect” by Twin Peaks Middle School students in the sixth- to eighth-grade language arts category.

• “The Vanishing Rainforest” by Meadowbrook Middle School students in the sixth- to eighth-grade math science category.

• “Bullying is Real” by Twin Peaks Middle School students in the sixth- to eighth-grade PSA category.

• “Dream, Fight, Live” by Rancho Bernardo High students in the ninth- to 12th-grade broadcast journalism category.

• “Room 702” by Rancho Bernardo High students in the ninth- to 12th-grade fiction category.
