Poway 4-H does well at county fair

A blue ribbon in Market Class at the San Diego County Fair allowed all of the members of the Poway 4-H Club swine group to sell their hogs in the Junior Livestock Auction.

Poway 4-H Club swine group members Mikail Coffman, Ceanna Coffman, Lisa Schloss, Quincy Muhr, Alec Bergman, Hannah Bergman and Maddie Muhr.

In addition to blue ribbons in Market Class, Lisa Schloss placed fifth in “Bred and Fed,” a class that requires that the hog has been born to a San Diego County-based breeder; Quincy Muhr placed seventh in Intermediate Showmanship and Hannah Bergman, Maddie Muhr and Alec Bergman placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in Senior Showmanship. Maddie Muhr took home Reserve Champion Yorkshire Hog for 4-H with her pig, Luna.

The end of the San Diego County Fair means the end of the road for everyone except Mikaili Coffman, Quincy Muhr and Maddie Muhr, who will be taking two hogs and a steer to the Ramona Fair, which starts July 31. Anyone interested in buying a homegrown, antibiotic-free hog or steer can do so at the Junior Livestock Auction at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.
