Pedestrian hit on Community Road

A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle Monday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Community Road at Metate Lane in Poway.

According to Deputy Mark A. Karo of the Poway Sheriff’s Station, the 67-year-old male pedestrian ran eastbound across Community Road from Metate Lane and was struck by a 2006 Jeep traveling southbound in the number one lane. There are two posted signs at this intersection which read “No Pedestrian Crossing.” Witnesses also stated the pedestrian was looking to the south as he entered the roadway, not paying attention to oncoming southbound traffic. By all accounts, the Jeep was traveling on a green light at a “normal” rate of speed. Drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in this collision.

The pedestrian was transported to Palomar Hospital for evaluation of his injuries, including a moderate laceration to the back of his head. The investigation is ongoing.
