Big names in 12-band lineup for the Del Mar concert series

The Del Mar Racetrack’s summer concert series begins this weekend, and continues throughout the summer on the Seaside Stage.
The summer concert series consists of 12 concerts, including a number of big names like The Offspring, Dashboard Confessional and Ben Harper.
Del Mar’s concert series stretches back to 1995, when five bands took the stage in July and August. Over the years, a number of famous bands and musicians have performed there, including Jack Johnson, Weezer, Violent Femmes, Jason Mraz and ZZ Top.
This year’s 12-band lineup is the most the series has ever hosted, topping the 11 scheduled for the past few years.
The series begins this Friday, July 20, with Wavves, described as a mixture of classic surf vibes, psychedelic studio sounds, and garage punk rock, blending into a unique sound.
Dashboard Confessional will perform their modern indie pop-rock Friday, July 27.
Los Tucanes de Tijuana will perform both Norteño music and Corrido ballads 6 p.m. Sunday, July 29.
Grammy Award-winning British Reggae band Steel Pulse performs Friday, Aug. 3 on the Seaside Stage.
Alternative rockers Cake follow the Beer Fest, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.
Punk rock band The Offspring perform 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10.
Michael Franti & Spearhead will perform their unique mixture of rap, funk and soul-driven beats 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17.
Singer-songwriter Ben Harper performs 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, following a Beer Fest which begins at 1 p.m.
Reggae and ska musician Jimmy Cliff will perform Friday, Aug. 24.
Ozomatli will be performing Latin, hip-hop, rock, funk and world fusion music 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.
Saturday, Sept. 1 features the Reggae Festival with Ziggy Marley, as well as the Del Mar Racetrack’s annual Beer Fest.
The concert series ends Wednesday, Sept. 5 with “Party in the Paddock,” featuring performers yet to be determined.
Shows are free with purchase of racetrack admission prior to the final race of the day, admission to the races starts at $3 for Diamond Club members and $6 for non-members. Admission to the concert after the final race is $20. The concerts are standing room only and begin after the races end. For Friday shows, patrons under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. All Saturday shows are 18 and up only.
