Battle of the Bands

The finale of the San Diego County Library Teen Battle of the Bands is 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 21 at the Poway Library, 13137 Poway Road. The competition will be judged by a panel of music aficionados, and the winners will receive paid gigs at the library.

PNEC meets

Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps meeting features a presentation on evacuation preparations by Rachel Grant Dixon at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19 at 14211 Twin Peaks Road, Poway.

Share backyard produce

Donate backyard produce to help local families in need 8:30 am – 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26. Adopt a pet

The Escondido Humane Society is holding a pet adoption event 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at Kahoots, Poway and Community roads in Poway. They are also accepting donations of canned dog and cat food and treats.

Interfaith Summer Nights

Join the Poway Interfaith Team at their “Evening with our Interfaith Neighbor” at the Community Church of Poway, 13501 Community Road, from 6:45-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26. The evening will focus on the background of the Mormon religion. There is a suggested donation of $5 per adult. For more details, call 858-487-8885.

Bingo!

The Poway Senior Center holds its 10th annual bingo tournament 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5 at the center, 13094 Civic Center Drive. First prize, $750; second prize, $500, plus other prizes. Advanced entry free is $15 ($20 after Aug. 1) and 21 game buy-in is $30. Pre-ordered lunch is $5. Open to the public, 18 years and older. All proceeds benefit the center. Donate magazines

Pomerado Hospital needs your used magazines for its waiting rooms and patient magazine cart. News magazine should be up to a month old and monthly magazines up to 3 months old. Bring the magazines to the hospital’s front desk. For more details, call 858-613-4659.

Help needed

Palomar Health is looking for volunteers for its medical facilities. Positions include those with and without patient contact, various locations and duties, and flexible hours.

Apply for Head Start

Head Start is accepting applications for its federally funded free preschool program. The program offers nutritious meals, educational activities and kindergarten readiness skills. It serves over 198 families living in the Poway Unified School District. Foster children and children with special needs are also served by the program.

Explore ancient village

Explore an ancient village in the middle of Poway at the Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center, 13104 Ipai Waaypuk Trail, off Poway Road across from Silver Lake Drive. The center is open 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday. For more details, call 858-668-1292 or visit poway.org/kiic.

Shop ‘n’ Adopt

Escondido Humane Society is discounting the fees of animals adopted on Wednesdays only if the adopter brings in items from the group’s wish list. The fee reduction will be double the gift price, so bring a receipt. Items can also be purchased online via EHS’ Amazon wish list.
