Prep baseball: Poway High’s Dean earns spot on USA 15U National Team
By Michael Bower
Poway High sophomore Kyle Dean earned a spot on the USA 15U National baseball team after impressing coaches throughout the five-day trials in North Carolina over the last week.
Dean learned late Thursday night he had been selected to play with the 15U National Team, which will travel to the Dominican Republic to play in the Dominican Friendship Series Aug. 12 – 15.
“Just being invited was an honor,” Dean said. “But now, since I have been selected, to be able to wear the USA on my jersey is a special point in my career and I want to make the most out of it. I have worked very hard to get to this point and now the hard work has paid off.”
Dean started in left field as a freshman for the Titans last season. The speedy, right-handed hitter first caught the attention of USA National Team scouts at the USA Baseball Championship Camp in Arizona in June. He hit .700 with 19 RBIs and a home run at the camp.
