Elks fundraising dinner

Wellness Expo

Poway Walmart and Soroptimist International of Poway, in partnership with LifeStyle INFOCUS, hosts the Poway Walmart Wellness Expo 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 in the parking lot of the Poway Wal-Mart. The expo includes booths promoting health, beauty and environmental sustainability. Admission is free, and all proceeds will go to Poway Soroptimists.

Help PHS dance team

Get your vehicle washed and support the Poway High School Dance team at their fundraising car wash 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at RB Oil Change, 12472 Rancho Bernardo Road at Pomerado Road.

Teen Catfish-O-Rama

Youths, ages 11-17, can be awarded for reeling in the biggest catfish during the Lake Poway Teen Catfish-O-Rama 3 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. Lake Poway fishing permit required, $3 for ages 11-15, $6 for ages 16-17. For more details, call 858-668-4770.

Low-cost groceries

Get low-cost groceries once a month by reserving food packages ranging from $8 to $37 through the Poway Share Food Program. Orders can be placed between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. weekdays at the Poway Senior Center, 13094 Civic Center Drive, or online at www.powayshare.com until Aug. 16. Distribution will be 8 to 9 a.m. Aug. 25 at the Poway Senior Center.

CPR/infant life saving class

Parents and grandparents can learn CPR and infant life saving techniques in a class presented by the American Heart Association Saturday, Aug. 18 at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 16275 Pomerado Road, Poway. The CPR class is 8 a.m. to noon; the Infant Life Saving class is 1 to 4 p.m. Certification available. Cost is $30 for each session or $55 for both. Donate magazines

Pomerado Hospital needs your used magazines for its waiting rooms and patient magazine cart. News magazine should be up to a month old and monthly magazines up to 3 months old. Bring the magazines to the hospital’s front desk. For more details, call 858-613-4659.

Palomar Health is looking for volunteers for its medical facilities. Positions include those with and without patient contact, various locations and duties, and flexible hours.

Apply for Head Start

Head Start is accepting applications for its federally funded free preschool program. The program offers nutritious meals, educational activities and kindergarten readiness skills. It serves over 198 families living in the Poway Unified School District. Foster children and children with special needs are also served by the program.

Shop ‘n’ Adopt

Escondido Humane Society is discounting the fees of animals adopted on Wednesdays only if the adopter brings in items from the group’s wish list. The fee reduction will be double the gift price, so bring a receipt. Items can also be purchased online via EHS’ Amazon wish list.
