Men’s Tennis: Poway High graduate Klahn qualifies for US Open

Former Poway High great Bradley Klahn qualified for the US Open in men’s singles after winning three straight qualifying matches in New York.

Klahn, who took a set off 20th seed Sam Querrey before being beaten in four sets at the 2010 US Open, will play Austria’s Jurgen Melzer in the first round of the prestigious tournament on Wednesday.

Klahn, who was an All-American at Stanford, turned 22 on Aug. 20. He beat No. 9 seed Florent Serra of France in straight sets Friday to qualify.
