Three arrested at Poway DUI checkpoint

Sheriff’s deputies arrested two drivers on suspicion of DUI during a sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint in Poway. A third driver was arrested for having an active misdemeanor warrant for a previous DUI.

The checkpoint was 6 p.m. Saturday to 1:15 a.m. Sunday at Poway and Oak Knoll roads.

A total of nine citations were issued, four for driving without a valid driver’s license, and five for driving on a suspended driver’s license, two with the suspension being a DUI conviction and three for other reasons.

Of the 1,076 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 39 were sent to secondary screening.
