4S Ranch residents have entertainment choice on Saturday
By Elizabeth Marie Himchak
Those in 4S Ranch will have to make a choice if they want to attend one of two free entertainment offerings in local parks on Saturday night.
Everyone is welcome to see “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax,” the final free movie shown at 4S Ranch Sports Park as part of San Diego County Parks and Recreations’ 2012 Summer Movies in the Park series.
The rated PG animated film released earlier this year is about a 12-year-old boy searching for the thing that will help him win his dream girl. The endeavor includes learning the story of the Lorax. It features the voices of Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Danny DeVito and Betty White.
As an added bonus to this movie, the final of four shown in the 4S Ranch park this summer, parents can take photos of their youngsters with the Lorax and around 250 goodie bags will be distributed to children on a first-come basis, said Ray Shay, whose Shay Realtors of RE/MAX Ranch & Beach is among those sponsoring the movie night.
“It’s a great family event, with around 800 to 1,000 attending (each movie),” Shay said.
The film will begin at dusk, but the Lorax character will be at the park starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 for photos. Refreshments will be available for purchase or families can bring a picnic. They are also advised to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
4S Ranch Sports Park is at 16118 4S Ranch Parkway.
As for the annual Concert in the Park, that is only open to 4S Ranch residents and their guests because it is sponsored by the 4S Ranch homeowners association. Residents should bring their HOA member IDs.
The ‘70s theme event will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 in Linear Park. The band Atomic Groove will play from 7-9 p.m.
Jennifer Harper, 4S Ranch HOA activities director, said there will be a ‘70s best-dressed contest, free activities for kids such as bounce houses and spin art, and a brief fireworks show after the free music concert.
Food will be available for purchase from Flippin Pizza and Sweet Things. The latter will also offer an $8 tie dye shirt craft and charge $2-$4 for face painting. Order a whole pizza in advance at 858-674-9977 or purchase on site by the slice.
Linear Park is on 4S Ranch Parkway, just south of Monterey Ridge Elementary, 17117 4S Ranch Parkway. For details, go to www.4SConnect.com.
