at Del Norte (1-0), Friday 7 p.m.

Last week: San Pasqual d. Torrey Pines 22-7; Del Norte d. Rancho Buena Vista 20-15

Notes: Two teams off to strong starts will clash in this one. Del Norte took another step forward as a program last week, picking up their first road victory in the school’s short history. George Liang had 138 yards on 10 carries, including scores on runs of 38 and 70 yards … The Eagles showed their ability to throw and run the football in last week’s win. RB Peter Ricardez scored all three TDs on the ground and finished with 138 yards. QB Sebastian Tengan completed 50 percent of his throws for 85 yards … The Nighthawks’ defense will need to stop the run and the offense cannot have any turnovers in order to pull off this upset.

Prediction: San Pasqual 40, Del Norte 17

Rancho Bernardo (0-1)

at No. 7 Mission Hills (0-1), Friday 7 p.m.

Last week: Escondido d. Rancho Bernardo 28-27; Mission Viejo d. Mission Hills 35-21

Notes: The Broncos are in the midst of working inexperienced guys into the mix, while the Grizzlies are full of veterans and are expected to compete for a section championship … Rancho Bernardo looks to bounce back from an agonizing loss last week after it allowed Escondido to make up a 14-point deficit in the final eight minutes. New QB Michael Searson shined in his debut, tossing three TDs and completing 28 of 36 passes for 298 yards. WR Charles Ensley hauled in 16 of those balls for 160 yards … Mission Hills trailed just 14-7 at halftime to SoCal perennial power Mission Viejo last week, but the game got away in the third quarter. Grizzlies QB Connor Wynn threw for 117 yards and two TDs. Mission Hills crushed Rancho Bernardo 48-0 last year and this year’s squad is even better.

Prediction: Mission Hills 50, Rancho Bernardo 14.

Foothills Christian (1-0)

at Maranatha Christian (0-1), Friday 7 p.m.

Last week: Foothills Christian d. Calvin Christian 12-7; San Pasqual Academy d. Maranatha Christian 42-14.

Notes: The Eagles are hoping to rebound from a disastrous season opener last week. Maranatha’s defense started strong, but was shredded for over 400 yards rushing. QB Jake Kirby got going in the second half, finishing with 234 yards passing and a TD. … The Knights trailed 7-0 at halftime last week, but shutout Calvin Christian in the second half to get the win. QB Kyle Moberg had 121 yards rushing and two TDs. He will be the key guy to stop for the Eagles.

Prediction: Foothills Christian 28, Maranatha Christian 7.
