New barber shop opens in Poway center

The aim of a new barber shop in Poway is to provide quality haircuts for men and boys at a good price with friendly service at a good price, according to the owner.

Charlie’s Barber has been recently opened by Charlie Huynh, who has been providing haircuts in the local community for 20 years.

Huynh was previously employed at the busy Poway barber shop, Sal’s Barber, for 20 years, where he had run the shop as manager and also did haircuts for men and boys. It was the first place he worked after finishing barber college in downtown San Diego.

He had previously hoped to eventually take over Sal’s Barber, but decided to open one on his own.

“A lot of customers told me I should open my own,” said Huynh, noting that he had lots of customers at Sal’s Barber, and that customers said they would continue to go to him for their haircuts.

Huynh opened Charlie’s Barber on July 15 at 13256-A Poway Road in the Lively Center. He owns the establishment and also continues to provide haircut ser vices.

He said he is pleased to open the new shop, noting it’s in a great location in Poway that is easy to access and offers plenty of parking.

Huynh said he has wanted to open his own barber shop for a long time, and it feels good to own and run his own business.

“I love cutting hair,” said Huynh, who is originally from Vietnam and now lives in Tierrasanta. “I hope everyone knows of us and supports us in the future.”

Charlie’s Barber offers all styles of haircuts for men and boys. Currently the haircuts are priced at only $7 to attract business, Huynh said. On Mondays and Thursdays, the price is only $6.

As customers learn about the new shop through word of mouth and advertising in local publications, business has been picking up slowly, Huynh said.

“It’s getting better every day,” he said.

The barber shop features five salon chairs and customers can walk in for services without an appointment. The storefront was previously empty, so everything in the shop has been built new for the new business.

Charlie’s Barber is located at 13256-A Poway Road. The shop is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The phone number is 858-748-1166.
