Prep Football: Del Norte High plays San Pasqual tough in loss

The Del Norte High football team showed it can play with the big boys Friday night in a 17-7 loss to host San Pasqual in a nonleague game.

The Nighthawks held a 7-3 lead at halftime against last year’s CIF San Diego Section Division I semifinalists, but were held to just 42 yards in the second half and made a few costly mistakes late to allow the Eagles to pull out the win.

San Pasqual (2-0) rallied in the fourth quarter for two touchdowns. Trent Wilson capped an 11-play, 80-yard drive and then Kyle Hendrickson recovered a fumble in the end zone for a game-clinching score.

Del Norte (1-1) made a huge fourth-down conversion for the second week in a row to get its touchdowns. Isaiah McDonald found Spenser Pennington on fourth-and-1 to cap a 14-play, 80-yard drive to give the Nighthawks the halftime lead.
