Prep Football: Maranatha Christian rolls to 35-7 win in Pacific League opener
The Maranatha Christian football team dropped its first two games of the season, but the Eagles appear to have gotten things on track.
Jake Kirby threw for over 200 yards and two touchdowns and Dan Duka ran for 229 yards and three TDs to help Maranatha snag its second straight victory 35-7 Thursday over host San Diego Jewish Academy in a Pacific League game.
The 35 points is the most the Eagles (2-2, 1-0 Pacific League) have scored in any game this season and it is the second straight game Maranatha’s defense held its opponent to single digits on the scoreboard.
The Eagles built a 14-0 lead through the first quarter and then broke the game open with 21 more unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 35-0 lead at halftime. Steven Velazquez and Jack Olmstead each had an interception to lead the Eagles’ defense.
Gray Rohde and Olmstead each had a receiving touchdown for the Eagles, which are playing their first full season of 11-man football at the varsity level.
