Poway man in running for Redbook’s ‘Hottest Husband’ title

A Poway man in the finals of a Redbook magazine contest for “hottest husband,” thanks to the efforts of his wife.

Dale Snead, a CPA, is one of 25 finalists out of over 1,800 entries in Redbook magazine’s “2013 hot husband” contest. If he wins, he and his wife will win a trip to Bali.

Michele, Dale’s wife, secretly nominated him back in July. “I didn’t tell him I entered him,” said Snead, who said she figured if he didn’t advance to the finals, Dale would never have to know about the contest. Michele had to write a short essay on why her husband should be voted the hottest husband by Redbook, emphasizing his hardworking nature, his kindness and his devotion to his family. “Besides his great looks, he’s selfless, he’s a great father, a great provider,” said Michele Snead. “He’s all-around great.”

On Aug. 1, Michele received a call saying Dale had advanced to the finals, and she needed to fill out an in-depth questionnaire about her husband to continue. “I was up until 2 a.m. filling it out,” said Michele. After hearing nothing else, Michele said she assumed Dale hadn’t advanced any further, until she got another call that he was one of the top 25, and was going to public voting.

Then came the time to tell Dale about the contest. “He said, ‘no, no, no, you’d better not,’ and I said, ‘too late,’” said Michele. “He’s kind of embarrassed about it, he’s a shy guy.”

While Dale is unsure about the whole contest, what he isn’t unsure of is the love his wife has for him.

“You know, I was obviously very touched that my wife took the time to say all those nice things about me,” said Dale. “It’s nice to know that after all these years, she still feels that way. I think every husband wants his wife to look at him this way.”

Dale and Michele Snead have been married for 12 years, and have four children, Caitlin, 19, Ashlyn, 11, Brayden, 9, and Kaden, 8.

As for the contest itself, Dale is leaving that entirely to Michele. “I haven’t really thought about it,” said Dale. “I’m not really wanting attention, I’m shy.” Not even for the trip to Bali? “I don’t even know where the trip is to,” said Dale.
