The 145-pound Poway High senior wrestler verbally committed to Bucknell University in Pennsylvania last week.

“I really enjoyed the visit there and there are a lot of good wrestlers there that want to do something in the NCAA national championships,” said Lopez, who is a two-time state placer after finishing second as a freshman and fourth at 132 pounds last year. “The coaching staff is awesome and school wise they really put a huge emphasis on education. They make sure school comes before everything else.”

Bucknell is a Division I school, which is regularly ranked in the top 25 of the nation. Lopez said he is happy the recruiting process is over so he can focus his attention on his final year with the Titans.

“That was one of the big things my parents and I talked about,” he said. “I wanted to be committed somewhere before the season started so I wouldn’t have to worry about the recruiting process.”
