The Del Norte High girls golf team entered the season on the heels of back-to-back Valley League titles, and a perfect league record in its two-year program history.

A chance at three straight years without a blemish in league play went out the window when Mission Vista defeated the Nighthawks at San Luis Rey Golf Course on Sept. 20. But in a rematch Wednesday, Del Norte responded like true champions.
Seniors Paris Griffith and Bella Kim led the Nighthawks to their third straight Valley League title, as Del Norte edged Mission Vista 208-216 at Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course. The two are co-champions since each has just one loss in league.
Griffith earned medalist honors, firing an even-par 36. Kim also turned in a strong effort, carding a 2-over 38. Freshman Annika Chickering rounded out the top three scorers for Del Norte with a 41.
“The seniors really stepped up,” Del Norte coach Mike Reifeiss said. “They were super clutch and they played great. They got us another league title.”
Del Norte faces Ramona today in the final Valley League match then it is on to the league finals Monday. The CIF San Diego Section tournament starts Oct. 30 in Coronado.
“I would like to make it to the second day of CIF and then maybe get one or two girls to regionals this year,” Reifeiss said.
Griffith was the lone qualifier for the SoCal Regionals last year. The team did not advance past Day 1 of the section tournament.
