Rancho Bernardo resident Marlow Gibby said he and his wife came home from grocery shopping Monday morning to find a Nissan Quest minivan in the wall of their garage and three police cars on site.

Police said the accident was reported at 11:37 a.m. Oct. 29 in the 115oo block of Poblado Road in the Westwood neighborhood.

Gibby said the driver and her 2-year-old child were fine. He was told the accident occurred when the minivan turned from West Bernardo Drive onto Poblado Road and was hit by another vehicle making a U-turn at the Botero Drive and Poblado Road intersection.

“It hit her side and she veered off, ending up in the garage,” he said.

According to Gibby, who has lived in the home since 1970, there have been a lot of accidents and near accidents at that intersection, but this is the first time a vehicle crashed into his house.

Police said the minivan had to remain lodged in the garage wall until a city engineer could assess the damage and determine the best way to remove the vehicle so further structural damage would be minimized.
