CIF Prep Girls Volleyball: Del Norte High reaches first section finals in program history

The Del Norte High girls volleyball team went through an entire year thinking about how it fell one win short of reaching the CIF San Diego Section Division III championship game last season.

But that year-long frustration turned into a celebration Wednesday night.
The second-seeded Nighthawks pulled out a five-set thriller, 3-2 (21-25, 25-13, 25-19, 16-25, 16-14), over No. 6 San Dieguito Academy in the CIF SDS Division III semifinals at Del Norte High.
The Nighthawks will play in their first championship game in the three-year program history against No. 1 Cathedral Catholic Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cathedral Catholic High. The Dons are the defending Division II state champions and have won the last six Division III section titles.
