Poway Parade backers need sponsors, donors
By Steve Dreyer
Members of the Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps have assumed various roles in the planning of the 49th annual Poway Days Parade and the club is soliciting sponsorships to help finance event costs.
Chairwoman Pauline Getz said that Jody Campillo will head up the sponsorship campaign, Pat Harrison will be in charge of entries, Bill Stoudenmire will handle publicity and Frank Freund will oversee the new 5K/1 Mile Fun Run/Walk that will be held just prior to the Saturday, Sept. 7 parade.
The club last month agreed to take over the parade after Sabrina Butler of the Poway Community Association stepped down after four years. Getz announced the theme as “I Love A Fit Poway” and that the date of the parade was changed from Sept. 14 due to the Yom Kippur holiday.
Campillo said the club’s goal is to raise $30,000 this year. Of that amount, $5,000 has already been pledged by the Poway Walmart store, which will be the parade’s title sponsor. Other title sponsorships are available at that level.
Sponsorship levels include Gold ($1,000), Silver ($500) and Bronze ($250.) The first two levels include preferential placement in the parade line and link on the parade website. All three levels include in introductions by parade route announcers, passes to the pre-parade VIP breakfast and grandstand seating. More information can be found and payments made online at www.powayparade.org. This year donations can be made though PayPal.
Campillo said the club is also encouraging local families make smaller donations to help fund the parade. That also can be done online.
Parade-related costs include transportation for high school marching bands, fees paid to novelty acts and portable rest rooms and equipment rentals, Campillo said. There will also be new costs associated with the inaugural 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk/Run, she said. The $30,000 budget also includes $5,000 in seed money for the 2014 parade, she said.
