Don't even get near alcohol or drugs before you operate any vehicle. You can get a DUI even while riding a bicycle. Know your rights. Educate yourself. You have the right to drive away from a checkpoint if you don't want to stop as long as you do not commit a traffic violation and do not display the behavior of someone who is obviously intoxicated. You also don't have to answer any questions or perform any sobriety tests if you are stopped. If you assert your rights remain calm and polite.
