The City of Poway’s summer classes opened for registration this past week, with classes for all ages, everything from dance to CPR.

The Friends of the Rancho Bernardo Library present a free concert 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 in the Community Room of the Library, 17110 Bernardo Center Drive. Performing the music of Ravel and Villa-Lobos will be members of the acclaimed California Quartet, featuring violinist Bridget Dolkas, and cellist Lars Hoefs. Bertrand’s Music is ‘Small Business of the Year’

Mayor appreciative of his PHS education
Best known as the longtime mayor of Poway, Don Higginson is one of four Poway High School graduates who is being inducted into the PHS Hall of Fame Friday, May 25, along with fellow graduates Jeffrey Belk, Jud Buechler and Matthew Fei.
Jeff Berkley back in Poway on Saturday
Singer-songwriter Jeff Berkley will be returning for a second year to perform 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at the Poway Library, part of the San Diego County Library’s free Acoustic Showcase concert series.

The YPO Philharmonic String Orchestra and Soloist Ensemble, under the direction of Alyze Dreiling, will present their final concert of the 2011-12 season 7 p.m. Friday, May 18 at the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church, 17010 Pomerado Road. The concert will feature works by Vivaldi, Turina, Martinu, Vaughan-Williams, Arvo Part and Rota. Tickets will be sold at the door, $12 Adult, $8 Senior, Students and Military.
