Regular readers know I’m all about finding different ways to position yourself in the marketplace. Which is why, to celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie Day (Friday), I’m applauding Taryn Kilgore’s marketing efforts.

I’ve seen cards that are 9 inches by 6 inches, others only one-half inch high. I’ve gotten cards with holes punched in them and glitter or jewels glued on them.

It’s college season! My teenager’s being inundated with thousands of brochures, postcards, fliers, emails, and phone calls from hundreds of potential collegiate suitors.

If this company made me work to find them, I’m wondering what they’d be like if we signed a contract.

Social networking has taken word-of-mouth marketing to a higher plane, sharing your thoughts about any business with the immediate world.

On the off-chance things continue beyond this Friday, I have some suggestions to improve everyone’s lives in 2013.

As a parent I’m troubled that licensing quickly crosses the line from frivolous to brainwashing. A child can’t make the distinction.

In 2008 my teenager opened an account at a Rancho Bernardo bank. When they got bought out we moved across the street with them.
This week I went to deposit a check into her account. I’m legally recognized as the primary name on this account.
