The world’s largest home improvement retailer will open a new store in the Poway Business Park next week with a special sneak preview for residents on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Home Depot is hosting “Neighborhood Night” from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at 12175 Tech Center Drive, off Scripps Poway Parkway. The event, which is free and open to all area residents, will be a prelude to the store’s official grand opening at 6 o’clock the following morning.

“This store will inspire and empower our customers to make their homes the very best,” said Store Manager Donovan Branson.

During “Neighborhood Night,” Home Depot officials will present a $2,000 donation to the Special Friends Foundation, a local nonprofit charity that helps at-risks youths. Officials are also expected to present a special gift to Poway Mayor Mickey Cafagna. Other event festivities include a kids workshop and various prize giveaways.

The new store features Home Depot’s most modern floor plan, with more than 35,000 products, a massive home decor department, an expanded outside garden area, an appliance showroom and a contractor services desk. A tool rental center with a separate entrance and service help has also been built into the new store.

Operations Manager Michele Snead said the tool center will feel like a store within a store, where various tools can be rented by the hour.

For those customers who do not have the time or the will to do projects on their own, the new store also features Home Depot At-Home Services, which offers contractor help with flooring, cabinetry, countertops, water heaters, HVAC, replacement roofing, windows, garage doors, exterior doors and siding.

The addition of Home Depot to the Poway Business Park means the addition of more than 100 new local jobs, some of which are still open.

“We’re just really, really excited to be here,” Snead said. “We’ve hired a lot of people from the community and we’ve all worked very hard to get (the store) ready.”

At full capacity, the new store will employ up to 200.

Starting next Thursday, Oct. 21, Home Depot will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.

Previously, the Home Depots in Carmel Mountain Ranch and Mira Mesa were the chain’s only locations in the Inland Corridor.
