Adrian R. Edick

Former Poway resident Adrian R. Edick, 68, died following a long battle with cancer on March 12, 2007 in Bullhead City, Ariz., where he was residing with his second wife, Maneta.

Mr. Edick was born in Muskegon, Mich., to Marion and Margaret Edick.

He retired in 1971 after 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He retired a second time, in 1993, from San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.

Mr. Edick was a past commander and life member of Fred L. Kent Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7907 in Poway.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Mildred (Taylor) Edick, whom he married in August 1966.

Survivors include three children; a son, James Edick of Jersey City N.J., and daughters Tammy McGill of Warner Springs and Tania Doran of Las Vegas Nev.; two stepsons, Robert Bencivenga of Escondido and Dennis Bencivenga of San Diego; a stepdaughter, Nadine Bencivenga of Ashland, Ore.; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Edick was cremated and the ashes will be interred alongside those of his first wife at 11 a.m. March 27 at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway.

The family suggests memorials in Mr. Edick’s name to a favorite charity.

Glenna M. Frampton

Former Poway resident Glenna Marie Frampton, 68, died March 16, 2007 in Washington state. Born in Toledo, Ohio, she was a Poway resident for 20 years and had been a resident of Kalispell, Mont., for five years.

A homemaker, Mrs. Frampton enjoyed quilting and tole painting.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Tom Frampton; her sons Jay Frampton of Seattle, Wash., and Allen Frampton of Reno, Nev.; her daughter, Julie Roberts of San Marcos, Calif.; her brother, Lee Mullen of Toledo, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Frampton, who died in 1992; and her sister, Bonnie Swain, who died in July 2006.

Services are private.

Loraine Hollimon

Loraine Buchanan-Hollimon, 76, of Poway died March 7, 2007 at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.

Mrs. Hollimon had lived in Poway since 1980 and was an active member of the Community Church of Poway.

Born in Chelmsford, Mass., to the late John and Harriet (Stewart) Buchanan, Mrs. Hollimon graduated from Chelmsford High School and the Fanny Farmer School of Cooking, where she received a degree in baking. She owned and operated several businesses in and around her home town, including a bakery, variety store and real esate agency.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Domey of San Diego and was the former wife of Sigmund Lachut of Dracut, Mass.

Survivors include her husband, Robert F. Hollimon; two sons, John Lachut and Paul Lachut, both of Poway; a daughter, Beverly Wyman of Salem, Mass.; a brother, Warren Buchanan of Chelmsford, Mass.; four grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was proceded in death by a brother, John H. Buchanan of Westford, Mass.

Susan Maiden

Susan Smith Maiden, 62, of Rancho Bernardo died on March 20, 2007.

Born in Boise, Idaho, Mrs. Maiden attended the University of Colorado, Palomar College, and San Diego State University, earning her BA degree from SDSU. She had lived in Rancho Bernardo for 35 years.

She worked as a designer and as a flight attendant for United Airlines. Ever the adventurer, she loved to travel and lived in Paris the final two years of her flying career.

Among her interests was a love for the dramatic arts. She appeared in and directed numerous plays in local theater. She was a skier, water skier, scuba diver, and above all, an avid golfer as a member of the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; a son, Scott; a daughter, Jennifer, and a brother, David and their families.

Memorial services are planned for 1 p.m. Monday, March 26 at the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church.

Yvonne L. Prince

A memorial service was held March 17 in Poway for Yvonne L. Prince, 89, of Lake Forest, Calif. She died on March 9, 2007.

A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. Prince was educated at Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. She worked in resort ownership and country club management with her husband of 30 years, Benjamin Prince.

For 24 years Mrs. Prince was a regular guest of her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Mark Brinton, who lived in Poway and now live in Rancho Bernardo. In her retirement she enjoyed cooking, reading, needlepoint, writing, walking and following the Los Angeles Lakers.

She is also survived by two other daughters, Sandra Sucec and Pamela English; a son, Ben Prince Jr.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Poway.

Kenneth L. Stone

Kenneth Lloyd Stone, 73, of Poway died on March 12, 2007.

Mr. Stone was born in Canada and had lived in North County — San Marcos and Poway — for the past 21 years. He was a retired trust officer for Wells Fargo and a manager for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

He belonged to Kiwanis International and the Planetary Society.

Mr. Stone was preceded in death in October, 2006 by his wife if 48 years, Elizabeth Stone. Survivors include a son, Michael Ronald Stone of Temecula; two daughters, Donna May Stone of Merritt Island, Fla. and Wendy Ann Wirth of Laguna Niguel; two sisters, Joyce Meace of Pennsylvania and Barbara Hickey of British Columbia; and four grandchildren. Two brothers, Gordon and Ronald Stone, preceded him in death.

Services were held Sunday, March 18 at Poway Bernardo Mortuary, with Rev. Barry Click officiating. Inurnment was at Dearborn Cemetery.

Steven E. Taylor

Steven Earl Taylor, 56, of Rancho Penasquitos died on March 11, 2007.

A native of Prairie du Chien, WI., Mr. Taylor had lived in Rancho Penasquitos for the past 17 years. He retired from the Navy in 1990 as a mess management specialist and had worked in food service in the San Diego city school system and the V.A. Medical Center in La Jolla. He was an avid sports fan, especially high school sports.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Lillian Taylor; a son, Joshua Taylor of Rancho Penasquitos; his mother, Belita Taylor of Prairie de Chen, WI.; and two sisters, Lea Martin and Ruth Taylor, both of Prairie de Chen, WI.

Services were held on March 16 at Maranatha Chapel in 4S Ranch. His ashes were to be scattered at sea by the Navy.

California Funeral Alternatives handled the arrangements.

Jonathan G. Vassiliadis

A memorial service will be held today (Thursday) for Jonathan George Vassiliadis, who died March 14, 2007 at the age of 14. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Jonathan lived in Rancho Bernardo most of his life.

A student at Bernardo Heights Middle School, Jonathan loved to play soccer. He also loved to travel and was at Youth Camp of the Evangelical Church of Athens.

Survivors include his parents, Apostolos and Ismene Vassiliadis of Rancho Bernardo; and his grandmother, Nina Agipidou.

The memorial service is at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 22 at Maranatha Chapel, 10752 Coastwood Road in Rancho Bernardo. The graveside service was March 20 at Dearborn Memorial Park.

Roberta Walthers

Roberta Walthers of Poway died March 15, 2007 at the age of 84. She was born in Tacoma, Wash., and lived in Poway for 10 years.

Mrs. Walthers enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her daughter, Denise Stone of Poway; her brother, Cal Lombardi of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Clair Francis Walthers.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22 at St. Viator, 2461 E. Flamingo, Las Vegas, followed by burial at The Palms Mortuary and Cemetery, also in Las Vegas.

The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
