Nella Bartolomei

Services will be held Tuesday for Nella “Mimi” Bartolomei of Poway, who died Jan. 29, 2008 at the age of 102. She was born in Italy and lived in Poway for 13 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Rita M. Spooner of Poway; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Rosary is at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Poway, Msgr. Neal Dolan officiating. Burial is at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Maxine R. Davies

Maxine R. Davies of Rancho Bernardo died Jan. 22, 2008 at the age of 83. She was born in Prospect, Pa., and lived in the community of Seven Oaks in Rancho Bernardo since 1996.

Mrs. Davies was a cashier at California State University, Fullerton for 16 years. She loved playing cards and bingo.

Survivors include her sisters, Jean Black and Leona Speer; and her brothers, Ronald Badger and Jake Badger, all of New Castle, Pa.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jerome Davies, who died in June 1999; her son, Robert Jay Davies, who died in January 1997; and her daughter, Debbie Buenconsejo, who died in August 2007.

Services were held Friday, Jan. 25 at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego.

Thomas M. Frangie

Services will be held tomorrow (Friday) for Thomas Michael Frangie, a longtime Rancho Bernardo resident, who died Jan. 23, 2007 at the age of 46. He was born in Covina, Calif., and lived in Rancho Bernardo since 1974.

Mr. Frangie, known at Tommy, was involved in various community outreach programs and events, even with his health challenges and issues. The former Westwood resident was the recipient of its club’s President’s Inspiration Award for Everyday Heroism. When Mr. Frangie received the award in 1990, the club president said he wanted to acknowledge a person who made him feel good on a day-to-day basis. A person who is an inspiration and an everyday hero.

Mr. Frangie worked part time, from time to time, with different small businesses in the San Diego area. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed the Padres, Chargers and Lakers. He was also a movie fan and enjoyed exploring the Internet.

He was known for his loving appreciation of life.

Survivors include his sisters, Anne Gillespie and Kathy Muckley, both of Rancho Bernardo, Elaine Leohner of Ventura, Calif., and Marie Prestwood of La Verne, Calif.; his brothers, George Frangie of Northridge, Calif., and John Frangie of San Luis Obispo, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Frangie, who died April 30, 2002 and George Frangie, who died Nov. 8, 1969.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at San Rafael Catholic Church in Rancho Bernardo, officiated by Msgr. Dennis Mikulanis. Burial is at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery in Oxnard, Calif.

Philip L. Heltman

Services were to be held today (Thursday) for Philip L. Heltman, 64, of Rancho Bernardo. He died Jan. 27, 2008.

Mr. Heltman was the chief operating officer of the Cubic Corporation. A native of Buffalo, N.Y., he had lived in Rancho Bernardo for the past 17 years.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Judith Ann Heltman; two sons, Fred and David Heltman, both of San Diego; a daughter, Kathleen Slade of 4S Ranch; a sister, Mary Lou Heltman of New York City; his step-mother, Mary Heltman of San Jose; a step-sister, Marina Peskar; and two grandchildren.

Services were to be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at San Rafael Catholic Church with Msgr. Dennis Mikulanis officiating. Burial was to be in Dearborn Memorial Park.

Cheryle D. O’Connor

Former Poway resident Cheryle D. O’Connor died Jan. 25, 2008 at the age of 61. She was born in Nebraska and was a resident of Ramona.

Prior to moving to Ramona, Mrs. O’Connor was a Poway resident since 1959. She was the owner of Poway Equipment Rental (PER, Inc.), a past member of Poway Soroptimist, LeTip and TOPS. She also was a collector of Department 56 Villages.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Robert O’Connor; her sons, Robert O’Connor Jr. of Ramona, Michael O’Connor of Poway and James O’Connor, also of Ramona; her sisters, Claudia Shidler of Poway and Carolyn Mabon of Porterville, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 28 in the historic chapel at Poway Community Church. Her ashes will be scattered at sea.

James J. Paradowski

Services will be held Saturday for James J. Paradowski, who died Jan. 23, 2008 at the age of 67. He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and lived in Poway.

Mr. Paradowski was a school bus driver for the Poway Unified School District. From 1987 to 2001 he was a journeyman pressman for the San Diego Union-Tribune. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of the San Diego Cactus and Succulent Society.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Gloria Paradowski; his sons, Jason Paradowski and Justin Paradowski, both of Poway; his twin sister, Grace Larsen of Stuart, Fla.; his sister, Joan Al-Nasser of Poway; and one nephew.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Ramona. Private inurnment is at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

The family suggests donations to the American Lung Association, 2750 Fourth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103 or Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Karen J. Thrun

Services will be held today (Thursday) for Karen J. Thrun, who died Jan. 25, 2008 at the age of 70. She was born in Ludington, Mich., and lived in Poway for 38 years.

Mrs. Thrun was a registered nurse for 35 years and retired from San Diego Children’s Hospital in 1992. She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Poway and was involved in many church activities. She loved to travel and loved her pets.

Survivors include her daughters, Donna Thrun of Chicago, Ill., Tammy Bottle of San Diego and Tanya Thrun of Poway; her son, Mark Brunner of Brazil; and two grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Community Church of Poway Historic Chapel, located at 13501 Community Road.

The family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of San Diego, 4950 Murphy Canyon Road, Suite 250, San Diego, CA 92123.
