First summer concert is this Sunday at Lake Poway

The City of Poway is launching its summer concert series this Sunday (June 28) at Lake Poway with a performance by the Danielle Tucker Band, which plays country music.

The band is led by Tucker, a Ramona resident — and 1997 Rancho Bernardo High graduate — who says she’s looking forward to kicking off this year’s Target Summer Concert Series.

“You get just a whole evening of family time in a beautiful setting,” said Tucker. “It’s a free concert ... and with the way the economy is these days, it’s really just a good treat.”

The concert takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the lake, 14644 Lake Poway Road. Shuttles will be available at Poway High School — 15500 Espola Road — starting at 4 p.m. A complete list of concerts is provided below.

The Danielle Tucker Band plays primarily country songs, but with a contemporary rock edge.

“We just want to keep people dancing the entire time,” said Tucker. “You won’t hear too many ballads coming from the group, just good, upbeat and clean material.”

For Tucker and her band, the show at Lake Poway is a summer kick-off of sorts. The band has numerous performances lined up this summer, as they set out to support a four-song EP released last year.

Among the band’s highlights this summer are a concert at the Carmel Mountain Ranch & Sabre Spring Recreation Center on July 18 (see below) and appearances at the San Diego County Fair.

After the summer tour, the band plans to head to Nashville for a showcase tour.

However, the band isn’t Tucker’s only outlet for her music. She has a new band, the Mighty Untouchables, that adds Latin and jazz songs to its repertoire. She also plays with Hit and Run, a local cover band that often plays in Poway.

“I’m going to ride it out with all three bands as long as I possibly can,” Tucker said. “But country music is my number one baby.”

The City of Poway’s Target Summer Concerts series continues on select days through Sept. 12 at different venues throughout the city.
