The Poway Veterans Committee will be honoring Army Specialist Kenneth Necochea Jr. at a special public ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at the Poway Veterans Park.
Necochea, who served with the 101st Airborne Division, was killed Dec. 12, 2010 in Afghanistan, when insurgents drove into his compound with explosives, killing him and others.
During the March 5 ceremony, which will also be a birthday celebration for Necochea, local veterans will raise an American flag that had flown at half-mast over the White House in Necochea’s honor.
They will also unveil a commemorative tile in memory of the fallen soldier, a 2007 Poway High School graduate.
The park is located at Midland Road and Adrian Street.
