CAMP PENDLETON (CNS) - A 49-year-old motorcyclist from Poway was killed when he was struck by another motorist on Interstate 5 in the Camp Pendleton area early Friday, authorities said.

The fatality on northbound I-5, south of Basilone Road, was reported just after 6 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Parent.

The motorcyclist, James Kelly Worley, was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson King when he was struck by a 2003 Nissan 350Z driven by 23-year-old Eugene McCulloch of Camp Pendleton, Parent said.

McCulloch was traveling about 70 mph when his vehicle drifted to the left and he lost control as he overcorrected to the right, Parent said.

According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner, the motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle. He was declared dead at the scene after he failed to respond to aggressive resuscitative efforts.

Two lanes of the freeway were closed for about two hours.
