Registration open for winter hoops league at Boys & Girls Clubs in Poway, 4S Ranch

The Boys & Girls Clubs in Poway and 4S Ranch will be offering a winter basketball league for boys and girls starting Dec. 3 at each location.
Registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 14 in 4S Ranch at 16118 4S Ranch Parkway, although if space is available, kids in grades K-8 can register up through Oct. 21 with a $10 late charge.
The Poway club has set its registration for coaches and players deadline as Friday, Oct. 21 according to the facility’s director, Katie Khasim.
Registration will stop once either of the leagues is full.
Both clubs are seeking head coaches, who will receive a 50 percent discount on fees if their child joins the league.
The 4S Ranch league has designed teams to include kindergartners on a team with only their age group, while teams consisting of first- and second-graders, third- and fourth-graders, fifth- and sixth-graders, along with seventh- and eighth-graders will have a combined two-year grade level.
Games will be Saturdays with some weekend games, times to be announced, for the 4S Ranch and Poway leagues.
Fees are $130 for non-members, which includes Boys & Girls Club membership and league fees, and $70 in fees for current club members at both locations, 16118 4S Ranch Parkway in 4S Ranch, and 12988 Bowron Road in Poway.
The fees include eight games, an elimination tournament, a one-hour weekly practice, a jersey and participation award.
“Basketball is perfect for beginners,” said the Poway’s Sports Coordinator Sean Rodriguez. “I think it’s great for all ages — and important for kids to learn different sports.”
Rodriguez, a 2008 Poway High School graduate, also coaches a community eighth-grade basketball league.
All age divisions will play at the Poway and 4S Ranch club locations with practice sessions beginning the week of Nov. 14.
The Poway divisions will not have a kindergarten team, but will offer the following teams for grades: first and second; third and fourth; and fifth and sixth.
There will be a $20 service charge for refunds prior to Nov. 4, but no refunds after that date.
