The recruiting battle for the services of Poway High cornerback Derek Babiash in 2013 are open once again.

The junior, who verbally committed to the University of Washington on Saturday, confirmed via text message to Pomerado News Monday that he has pulled back his verbal commitment to the Pac-12 school. He said he has already notified the coaching staff at Washington of his decision.

“I felt like I rushed into my decision and I was uncomfortable with my decision,” wrote Babiash, who attended Junior Day at the University of Washington over this past weekend.

It is not unusual for athletes to verbally commit and decommit throughout the recruiting process. Football players cannot make any commitment official until signing day in February of 2013.

Babiash recently picked up a scholarship offer from Boston College. The 6-foot, 1-inch, 170-pounder with 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash has a laundry list of schools fighting it out for his services, including Oklahoma, Nebraska, San Diego State, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado, Oregon State and a few others.

Babiash is ranked as the 26th best corner by Scout.com. He will be a key player on offense and defense for Poway, as the school looks to repeat as the CIF San Diego Section Division I champions in 2012.
