Prep Girls Soccer: Del Norte High explodes for six goals in season-opening win

Share

The Del Norte High girls soccer team scored 101 goals last season and appears to be headed toward another triple-digit year.

Kyra Carusa posted a hat trick and Sahar Nourani, Randi Buccat and Doriana Moul had a goal apiece, as the Nighthawks blanked Coronado 6-0 Thursday in their season-opening match in the Butch Lee Memorial tournament.

The Stanford-bound Carusa, who led the team in goals (26) and assists (34) as a sophomore last year, wasted little time showing why she is one of the top players in the county. She needed just four shots to score the three goals. It was the sixth time in her prep career that she has found the back of the net at least three times in a game.

Cassandra Manneh had four saves in the net to collect the shutout for Del Norte (1-0). Roisin Andrews and Nourani each had an assist, while Bree Bolelli registered two assists off two perfectly-placed corner kicks.

Moul, a freshman, had two shots and the goal in her first high school match. The Nighthawks continue play in the Butch Lee Memorial tournament Friday against Rosary at Del Norte High at 3:30 p.m.
