Poway Rotary Club expanding into Scripps Ranch

Share

The Rotary Club of Poway is expanding its membership and service focus to include Scripps Ranch.

“We look forward to growing our membership and expanding our projects in Scripps Ranch, which we admire for its strong sense of community,” said club President Alan Noblitt.

The 28-member club will be renamed the Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps, and club members will work with the Scripps Ranch Civic Association to identify projects as well as assist with already established fundraisers and events in the community.

“Having experienced the phenomenal volunteer spirit of the families in Scripps Ranch, and having exhausted the possibilities for volunteering once our children reach college age, the inclusion of Scripps Ranch with Poway Rotary will give those civic minded residents additional opportunities to once again become involved in volunteer activities to better our community and our neighboring community of Poway,” said club member and Scripps Ranch Kristin Rayder.

The club will continue to meet for lunch each Wednesday at The Brigantine Restaurant in Poway.

Members perform a variety of local, regional and global projects. The most well known global project it has undertaken is to work with the Bill Gates Foundation to eradicate polio worldwide. Locally, the club participates in food packing events, provides backpacks to school children in need, distributes dictionaries to third graders, and performs beautification work. Financial contributions are made to school programs, graduating seniors are awarded scholarships, teens are sponsored to attend leadership camps, and the club underwrites professionals from the community with study abroad opportunities.

Earlier this year, the club completed the annual Rotarians At Work Day by helping renovate the Poway Senior Center.
