Austin Clyde stood with the ball behind the 3-point line, as the Del Norte High boys basketball team trailed San Pasqual, 55-54, with 30-seconds to go in an opening-round game of the Mt. Carmel Holiday Classic on Wednesday.

Clyde pump-faked and drove right past two jumping defenders for the go-ahead layup with 16 seconds left and Del Norte hung on to beat San Pasqual, 56-55, after blowing a 16-point lead at Mt. Carmel High School.

Clyde finished with a game-high 23 points, while Alex Bulkin had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Nighthawks (5-6). Del Norte will play its next game in the tournament Thursday at 5 p.m. at Mt. Carmel High School.

Del Norte led nearly the entire way and by as many as 16 points in the third quarter. But the Golden Eagles came all the way back and took the lead on a Preston Hartvigen 3-pointer with 36 seconds to go.

But the Nighthawks stayed calm on their next possession, moving the ball around until it found the hands of Clyde. The 6-foot-2 junior took care of the rest from there.
